Keeping Lavy around on such an incredibly short leash was such a foolish move by the Flyers' brass. It was a complete waste of time for Laviolette, the players and Berube. At least they won't have that blunder to distract them to start the season.

Vincent Lecavalier is an interesting case. He is powerfully built with a thickly muscled upper body. From a distance, one would never think he was one of the players whose conditioning Berube was unhappy with a year ago. Apparently, he was, and Lecavalier's poor skating was a case in point of what the coach was getting at with his mantra of every player needing to be in peak skating condition.

Yeah, there's a difference between being sculpted and being in peak skating shape... veterans, especially, are notorious for holding off on hard skating until the very end of summer.

First we heard Voraceck has lost some weight, now VL and Coburn are in good shape. Who will be the first player to be called out for not conditioning? If it is a player like G what will the coach do?

As for the not firing Lavy over the summer, 20/20 and all that good stuff. To me, his firing was another message to me the fan that the organization is serious about winning. It's good to be a Flyers fan where I know my team is doing everything they can to win- you can't ask for too more.

I'd worry about the Schenn brothers, myself. Both of them.

I doubt Giroux would ever make the fitness poop list. He's a well documented client of fitness guru Tony Greco. I even think our boy Art Ross Akeson has been tagging along with Giroux to Greco's sessions in recent years.

In Coburn's case, the player was already in good shape skating shape. But he looked to be in the best shape of his career.

There is bound to be someone who gets called out in the conditioning department, however. Physicals are today, so we will see.

Yep, that was the 2nd biggest mistake during Holmgren's tenure as GM.

Signing Bryzgalov. All day! I dont care about the Richards and Carter deals. They were not bringing a cup here without a healthy Pronger at the very least.

I don't think hindsight bias is involved with evaluating the Lavy situation. Many of us believed he should have been fired after the 2012-13 season at the latest. Firing him 3 games in just compounded the problem.

Signing Hitchcock to a 3 year contract extension, and firing him 36 days later.

The team put themselves in a tough spot. I think they wanted to give Lavy the opportunity to turn things around because he is a good coach. They wanted to remain loyal to him and not fire him for missing the playoffs once. The team just looked so bad though. They looked like they were going to be one of the worst teams in hockey based on the preseason and first 3 games.

I wouldn't have had the balls to fire Lavy 3 games into the season, but, deep down in my heart, I knew this team wouldn't get better until they changed coaches.

Well, we ended up trading Eminger, after a handful of fairly awful games, along with the better version of Steve Downie, for the much-beloved Matt Carle.
